Dentistry:
-
We offer oral exams to determine if your horse needs their teeth floated. We offer both manual and power dentals with sedation.
-
Floating a horse’s teeth means to file down the edges of the teeth. Horses require their teeth floated approximately every 2 years or as recommended by the veterinarian. This is because horses’ teeth continue to grow throughout their lifetime and can often wear down unevenly which results in sharp edges on the teeth. These sharp edges can cause pain and discomfort to your horse.
-
Some signs your horse may need their teeth floated include dropping food, reluctance to eat, reluctance to put a bit in, and head bobbing or shaking.
Lameness:
- Lameness is a common sign of pain or discomfort in a horse. Some common signs of lameness in horses are reluctance to move, limping, dragging the toe, head bobbing, and change in performance. If you notice any of these signs, please give our clinic a call.
- We offer gait assessments, flexion tests, and hoof tests to diagnose lameness in your horse. Further diagnostics may be needed, such as diagnostic imaging (ultrasonography and radiology (X-ray), to determine the cause of lameness. Once the cause is determined, our veterinarian will provide an appropriate treatment plan for your horse.
Castrations/minor surgeries:
- We offer on-site and in-clinic equine castrations and minor surgeries. On-site surgical procedures often require a sheltered, dry area with adequate light to perform the procedure.
- Minor surgeries will include sedation and/or numbing of the area.
- Other minor surgeries we offer are:
-
Laceration repairs
-
Lumpectomies
-
Cryptorchid castrations
-
Diagnostic Imaging:
- The diagnostic imaging we offer includes radiography (X-ray) and ultrasonography.
- Radiography (X-ray) provides valuable information on your horse’s bones and gives insight to pain and discomfort you horse may be having. We have a mobile X-ray machine that allows fast, accurate diagnostic imaging on-site or in-clinic.
- Ultrasound may also be used for diagnostics and could be used in conjunction with radiography (X-rays). Ultrasounds allow us to view internal structures, such as your horse’s tendons, as well as diagnose pregnancy. We also have a mobile ultrasound machine that allows us to take imaging on-site or in-clinic.
Pre-Purchase Exams:
- Looking for your new equine companion?
- When looking for a new horse, a pre-purchase exam is always recommended! Our pre purchase exam includes a full general health check as well as a soundness examination. Radiographs (X-rays) are optional and can be requested by the buyer. Purchasing a new horse is an important decision and we are here to help you make the right decision!
