Our caring and compassionate veterinary care team

Meet the Veterinarians & Team of Equi-Tech Veterinary! We’re pleased to provide exceptional vet care for your pets.

Please call us at 204-467-2083 to speak to one of our caring veterinary staff members.

Dr. Valerie Millette

Dr. Millette is a small animal veterinarian and practice co-owner of Equi-Tech Veterinary with her husband Dr. Neil Versavel.

Dr. Val grew up in Calgary, Alberta. From an early age, she developed a keen interest in animals. She had a childhood obsession with gorillas, and was completely devoted to her childhood dog, Chili. In her teen and early adult years, Dr. Val worked in a variety of vet clinics and a pet store in Calgary. She began on her path to becoming a veterinarian by receiving a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Zoology from the University of Calgary in 2004. She achieved her ultimate dream of being accepted into veterinary school in 2005, and thus completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine (classmates with Dr. Neil Versavel, and Dr. Allison Murray).

Dr. Val enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, especially geriatric medicine and pain management, dentistry, ophthalmology, and veterinary acupuncture. Most of all, she enjoys being a witness to and supporter of the human-animal bond. She displays care and compassion with her gentle and thoughtful approach to her patients and their families.

Dr. Val is also a mom to two amazing children, Melodie and Aiden. They keep her busy with their activities, stories, and general Joi de vivre!

As a family, they enjoy time spent together camping, tobogganing, skating, swimming, and visiting with friends and family.

Dr. Val also enjoys fitness, gardening, reading, music, and caring for her old-timer Sonny-Dog, and her cuddle-cat Dusty-Boots.

Dr. Neil Versavel, DVM

Dr. Neil is a mixed-animal veterinarian and practice co-owner of Equi-Tech Veterinary, with his wife Dr. Valerie Millette.

Dr. Neil grew up on a small farm just outside Stonewall, MB. He spent his formative years helping his parents and grandparents raise and care for a variety of animals from rabbits, poultry and goats, to cattle, sheep and a pony named “Attaboy”.  Dr. Neil developed an early interest in becoming a veterinarian tagging along with his father Dr. Luc Versavel on a variety of calls.  Late night c-sections on cows, PMU barns full of mares, visits to a dairy barn, taking the horse’s “cookies” (castration), tagging wild boar and tagging along with the Gate Crew at Assiniboine Downs on race nights, are just some of Dr. Neil’s early experiences.

Dr. Neil enjoys practicing medicine as a mixed animal veterinarian on a variety of species with a particular emphasis on large animal medicine.

When not busy as a veterinarian, Dr. Neil enjoys time on the farm with his flock of purebred Suffolk sheep, spending time with his wife Dr. Valerie Millette and two children Melodie and Aiden, nature walks and more recently curling at the Balmoral Curling Club.

Dr. Allison Murray, DVM

Dr. Murray graduated from WCVM in 2009 as a classmate of Dr. Neil and Dr. Valerie. She practiced veterinary medicine in Winnipeg, MB for 11 years before joining Equi-Tech Veterinary in February of 2021 to be closer to her home community of Balmoral, MB.

Calm and compassionate, Dr. Allison strives to make visits to the vet less stressful for both pets and their owners. She believes strongly in taking time to provide owners with options and supporting them to make the best decisions for their pet. Her special areas of interest include behaviour and rehabilitation.

When she isn’t at the clinic, Dr. Allison usually finds herself chasing after her young family and their 2 dogs, and 3 cats.

Dr. Luc Versavel, DVM

Dr. Luc has been in mixed animal practice for over 41 years based near Stonewall in the South Interlake, accumulating experience in the bovine, canine, equine and feline species. He founded Equi-tech in 1985, growing the practice from a one-man operation to the four vet practice of today. Although the species % coverage has varied from decade to decade, the practice continues to be mixed animal orientated with dedicated small and large animal divisions.

Kahlia, Patient Care Team Manager, RVT

Kahlia received her diploma with honours after completing the Veterinary Technology program at Red River College in 2014. She became a registered veterinary technologist at Equi-Tech Veterinary in March 2020. While at work Kahlia enjoys monitoring anesthesia for surgical patients, takes an interest in emergency medicine, and enjoys learning new skills that she can bring back and share with the team.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son playing board games, reading and journaling. She currently has two snuggly orange cats, Travis and Tequila, and a wonderful handful of a dog, Jolene.

Destiny, VA

Destiny joined our team in January of 2021. She went to Robertson College and graduated with a Veterinary Assistant Diploma. Destiny has a strong passion for animals which lead her to become a vet assistant. At home she has a cat named Ariel and a rabbit named Aspen. When she’s not at work she enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.

Shannon, Client Care Team Manager, CSR

Shannon started with the clinic first as a client over 20 years ago. She joined the team in April of 2019, with years of customer service and management experience. When not at work, she spends time with her husband, 2 adult children, and 2 dogs: Frank is a shepherd mix rescue dog, that never made it into a rescue, and Georgia is a blood hound that makes everyone smile (there must be a reason why Disney named a dog “Goofy”). Shannon also co-parents a Rat Pack with her twin sister.

Brittany, CSR

Britt joined our team in the fall of 2020. She came in with 15 years in Customer Service & Office experience and a smile on her face. She’s always had a love & respect for animals, enjoys the outdoors, camping, hiking & her little slice of country living with her Son, out in “the bush”. Random hobbies may include wood-burning, crafting & baking, especially fun cakes for friends & family.

Hana, CSR

Hana is a local that started with us in September of 2021. She has always loved animals and enjoys getting the opportunity to greet them every day. In her spare time, she likes spending time with her friends and her 2 dogs Banjo and Kai!

Hilary, Office Assistant

Hilary is a retired Intensive Care Nurse of 36 year and previous owner/ operator of Equi-Tech Veterinary with her husband Dr. Luc Versavel. She is a 1975 graduate of the Grace School of Nursing, and a 1981 graduate of the Health Science Intensive Care Nursing Program. Hilary retired from nursing in 2010. She was actively involved in the running and management of Equi-Tech Veterinary from 1996 to 2015. Hilary was the office manager for Equi-Tech Veterinary from 2015 to December 2021. She is presently semi-retired and working at Equi-Tech Veterinary in a support position. Full retirement, gardening, riding, travelling and spending time with the grandchildren, Melodie and Aiden, are just around the corner.

Hilary has a passion for horses and dressage as well as a desire to continually improve her riding skills, which is being made possible with the help of her coach, Kelsey.  Presently, she owns two horses that she cares for and rides.

Joseline

After having worked 34 years for a government agency, then being retired for 10 years, Joseline felt the need to fill her retirement needs with other activities and connecting with people. As such an opportunity  came up at her brothers practise in 2016 to provide coverage in maintaining  cleanliness of the clinic by devoting 2 days a week of her spare time.

Joseline is an enthusiastic and energetic person, who takes pride in anything she does. She loves to interact with the team given they are part of the family. No job is ever too big for Joseline as she is passionate about being extremely organized, dedicated to the task.

Joseline loves the outdoors and enjoys her several daily walks and malamute rescue “Kelly”. Enjoys all forms of outdoor work as tending to her flower beds, gardening as well as travelling overseas.

“Staying busy in retirement is helpful to keep you occupied and active during the day.”
