Our caring and compassionate veterinary care team

Meet the Veterinarians & Team of Equi-Tech Veterinary! We’re pleased to provide exceptional vet care for your pets.

Please call us at 204-467-2083 to speak to one of our caring veterinary staff members.

Dr. Valerie Millette, DVM

Dr. Millette is a small animal veterinarian and practice co-owner of Equi-Tech Veterinary with her husband Dr. Neil Versavel.

Dr. Val grew up in Calgary, Alberta. From an early age, she developed a keen interest in animals. She had a childhood obsession with gorillas, and was completely devoted to her childhood dog, Chili. In her teen and early adult years, Dr. Val worked in a variety of vet clinics and a pet store in Calgary. She began on her path to becoming a veterinarian by receiving a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Zoology from the University of Calgary in 2004. She achieved her ultimate dream of being accepted into veterinary school in 2005, and thus completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Val enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, especially geriatric medicine and pain management, dentistry, ophthalmology, and veterinary acupuncture. Most of all, she enjoys being a witness to and supporter of the human-animal bond. She displays care and compassion with her gentle and thoughtful approach to her patients and their families.

Dr. Val is also a mom to two amazing children, Melodie and Aiden. They keep her busy with their activities, stories, and general Joi de vivre!

As a family, they enjoy time spent together camping, tobogganing, skating, swimming, and visiting with friends and family.

Dr. Val also enjoys fitness, gardening, reading, music, and caring for her young pup Peach, and her cuddle-cat Dusty-Boots.

Dr. Neil Versavel, DVM

Dr. Neil is a mixed-animal veterinarian and practice co-owner of Equi-Tech Veterinary, with his wife Dr. Valerie Millette.

Dr. Neil grew up on a small farm just outside Stonewall, MB. He spent his formative years helping his parents and grandparents raise and care for a variety of animals from rabbits, poultry and goats, to cattle, sheep and a pony named “Attaboy”.  Dr. Neil developed an early interest in becoming a veterinarian tagging along with his father Dr. Luc Versavel on a variety of calls.  Late night c-sections on cows, PMU barns full of mares, visits to a dairy barn, taking the horse’s “cookies” (castration), tagging wild boar and tagging along with the Gate Crew at Assiniboine Downs on race nights, are just some of Dr. Neil’s early experiences.

Dr. Neil enjoys practicing medicine as a mixed animal veterinarian on a variety of species with a particular emphasis on large animal medicine.

When not busy as a veterinarian, Dr. Neil enjoys time on the farm with his flock of purebred Suffolk sheep, spending time with his wife Dr. Valerie Millette and two children Melodie and Aiden, nature walks and more recently curling at the Balmoral Curling Club.

Dr. Luc Versavel, DVM

Dr. Luc has been in mixed animal practice for over 41 years based near Stonewall in the South Interlake, accumulating experience in the bovine, canine, equine and feline species. He founded Equi-tech in 1985, growing the practice from a one-man operation to the three vet practice of today. Although the species % coverage has varied from decade to decade, the practice continues to be mixed animal orientated with dedicated small and large animal divisions.

Kahlia, Patient Care Team Manager, RVT

Kahlia received her diploma with honours after completing the Veterinary Technology program at Red River College in 2014. She became a registered veterinary technologist at Equi-Tech Veterinary in March 2020. While at work Kahlia enjoys monitoring anesthesia for surgical patients, takes an interest in emergency medicine, and enjoys learning new skills that she can bring back and share with the team.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children playing board games, reading and journaling. She currently has two snuggly orange cats, Travis and Tequila, and a wonderful handful of a dog, Jolene.

Shannon, Client Care Team Manager, CSR

Shannon started with the clinic first as a client over 20 years ago. She joined the team in April of 2019, with years of customer service and management experience. When not at work, she spends time with her husband, 2 adult children, and 2 dogs: Frank is a shepherd mix rescue dog, that never made it into a rescue, and Georgia is a blood hound that makes everyone smile (there must be a reason why Disney named a dog “Goofy”). Shannon also co-parents a Rat Pack with her twin sister.

Brittany, Client Care Team Supervisor

Britt joined our team in the fall of 2020. She came in with 15 years in Customer Service & Office experience and a smile on her face. She’s always had a love & respect for animals, enjoys the outdoors, camping, hiking & her little slice of country living with her Son, out in “the bush”. Random hobbies may include wood-burning, crafting & baking, especially fun cakes for friends & family.

Joseline

After having worked 34 years for a government agency, then being retired for 10 years, Joseline felt the need to fill her retirement needs with other activities and connecting with people. As such an opportunity  came up at her brothers practise in 2016 to provide coverage in maintaining  cleanliness of the clinic by devoting 2 days a week of her spare time.

Joseline is an enthusiastic and energetic person, who takes pride in anything she does. She loves to interact with the team given they are part of the family. No job is ever too big for Joseline as she is passionate about being extremely organized, dedicated to the task.

Joseline loves the outdoors and enjoys her several daily walks and malamute rescue “Kelly”. Enjoys all forms of outdoor work as tending to her flower beds, gardening as well as travelling overseas.

“Staying busy in retirement is helpful to keep you occupied and active during the day.”

Hana, CSR & Veterinary Assistant

Hana is a local that started with us in September of 2021. She has always loved animals and enjoys getting the opportunity to greet them every day.

In her spare time, she likes spending time with her friends, and playing ringette. She loves her two dogs Nelli and Kai, and is very excited to be starting dock diving competing with Kai. She recently also transitioned into working as an assistant as well as a CSR!

Alyssa, CSR

Alyssa was a long time client before she joined the team in September of 2022. She has always worked with animals, and loves that she learns so much every day with her job. You will hear her on the phone when you call to book appointments, or order medications, but in her spare time loves to read fantasy novels.

She is always with animals, whether her own or someone else’s as she runs a pet sitting business in her free time! She loves to walk with dogs, or cuddle with cats, play with ferrets, or decorate a fish tank.

She hopes to continue to serve and work with our team for a long time to come!

Emma, Veterinary Assistant

Emma started working with us in May of 2022. She is currently a university student finishing her pre-veterinary requirements as well as an animal science degree. Emma is planning to pursue a career as a veterinarian.
Animals have always been a big part of Emma’s life. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her friends and family  her riding her horses Taco, Voodoo and Tucker. She also enjoys all the wiener cuddles from her dogs Scarlett, Elly, Finley, Reese and Chloe.

Lavina, RVT & Patient Care Team Supervisor

We miss seeing her face at the clinic while she is on maternity leave, and are excited to welcome her back in the clinic in 2025.

Lavina joined our team in April 2022.

After graduating from the RVT program at Red River College with honours in 2017 and passing the Veterinary Technologists National Exam, she started her career in small animal practice.

Lavina grew up on a small farm where she cultivated her love of animals big and small.
Outside of work, first and foremost she loves to spend quality time with her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling and various outdoor activities such as gardening, camping and backyard bonfires.

Brandy, RVT

Brandy recently joined our team in September of 2024. She graduated from Red River College in 2004, and has been working in small animal clinics in and around Winnipeg.

At work, she enjoys performing dental cleanings and assisting in surgery. She grew up outside of Winnipeg and has always had a love for animals. She enjoys spending her free time with family and friends at her home on the creek. Her furry friends keep her busy when she is not at work – 3 lovely dogs and a couple of handfuls of chickens. Gardening is also a favourite hobby of Brandy’s, especially growing veggies for her chickens.

Jill, RVT

Jill grew up just outside Stonewall and has lived in the rural area between Argyle and Balmoral for the past 15 years. She has always had a love for animals and decided to pursue a career in the animal health field. She graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Red River College in 2004, with a special interest in nutrition. She became head of the Public Relations board for the program for 5 years and enjoyed participating in numerous public events showcasing the career of a veterinary technologist. Jill has been a part of the Equi-Tech team since 2017.

After numerous years of owning dogs, Jill formed a special bond with her first rescue Pomeranian named Winston, and this ultimately lead to a larger scale Pomeranian passion. She currently has a “few” handfuls of poms, as well as a St. Bernard mix and a Labrador Retriever, along with a few cats.

In the past 5 years, Jill and her dogs have been quite involved in dogs sports. Each dog is trained in rally obedience and if they enjoy the sport, they continue on with more classes and competitions. Some dogs have gone through training in agility and dock diving as well. Jill also enjoys being an assistant trainer for classes in Fraserwood with puppies and young adult dogs.

Pet therapy has also been a high priority for Jill and she has visited (and still currently does) numerous seniors’ homes, hospitals, fundraisers, and events with her dogs over the years, bringing joy and excitement to the residents and public.

More recently, Jill has owned and operated a pet store as well has taken up grooming dogs. She now enjoys being a mobile groomer on the weekends and when she has some free time, she loves being outside walking her dogs.

Megan, Student RVT

Megan joined our team in October of 2023, she graduated the Robertson College Veterinary Assistant program in July 2023 and is presently enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician Program.

She grew up in Winnipeg, MB but now lives out in the country on a homestead with her boyfriend and daughter. She has 6 cats – Ghost, Gremlin, Gizmo, Boone, and Weezy, as well as 3 dogs – Sasha, Blue and Bear. She has a passion for large and small animals and enjoys heading out on farm calls with Dr. Neil.

In her free time she loves to raise her sheep, chickens, turkeys, and ducks as well as grow her vegetable garden. She recently adopted 2 beautiful horses – Red, and Midnight, as well as a donkey named Waylon.

Felicity, Large Animal Student RVT

Felicity joined our team in September 2022 as a Large Animal Veterinary Assistant, spending most of her days on the road with Dr. Neil. She recently started her Veterinary Technician program through Penn Foster February 2024.

Her passion for animals, especially horses, has always been around since a young age. She grew up in Balmoral with her horses and Woodlands raising beef cattle. Currently, she only has her dogs Remi and Ralphie. On her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family and is always willing to work overtime with Dr. Neil when needed.

She hopes to continue to work alongside Dr. Neil doing large animal work throughout her career as an RVT!
